Michael A. Mertz joined U.S. Retirement Partners in June 2008. From September 2001 through August 2007, he was an Executive Vice President in the Retirement Services Division of CitiStreet, LLC, a joint venture between Citigroup and State Street Bank. He was responsible for all client service functions in CitiStreet’s New Jersey operations center. His organization of over 100 people serviced all of CitiStreet’s small corporate 401(k), healthcare, government and education clients, as well as the CitiStreet and Smith Barney financial advisors associated with those clients. Mr. Mertz was also a member of the Executive Operating Group of CitiStreet, LLC, the second largest retirement plan recordkeeper in the U.S., with over $200 billion in assets under management.
In August 2007, Mr. Mertz became CitiStreet’s Chief Compliance Officer for ERISA Services, responsible for reviewing, developing, and coordinating ERISA compliance policies and procedures across the organization. He also managed the unit responsible for all ERISA plan testing and Form 5500 preparation.
Prior to joining CitiStreet in 2001, Mr. Mertz was with Citigroup Asset Management. He has over 35 years of experience in the retirement and investment services industry, including executive positions at MetLife, Irving Trust Company (now Bank of NY), and NationsBank (now Bank of America).
Michael Mertz received his Bachelor of Arts from Queens College of the City University of NY and his Juris Doctorate from St. John’s University School of Law. He was admitted to practice in the state of NY and served one year as a Law Judge for the NY State Workers Compensation Board.
